Instrument meta data - make your instrument page readable for the DMR-FIRST crawler
The DMR-FIRST crawler relies on machine readable meta data in your instrument page to identify.
Our crawler is looking for the format JSON-LD - a format which allows adding meta data to you instrument page header.
Schema.org has defined schemas for many different entities, like organizations, products, universities, etc. DMR-FIRST has defined a schema for research instruments which adds the properties needed to identify a specific instrument: serial number and physical location, as well as research experts.
While it is possible to include those meta data tags manually in instrument pages this would still require keeping two places updated: The field that is displayed on the page, and the meta data field. Take a look at this example to see what that looks like.
This can be simplified when using a Content Management System (CMS) like WordPress or Drupal. DMR-FIRST has developed plugins for both system which add research instruments as an entity type to the system, allowing you to edit a form with fields like name, location, instrument type, model number and the like, and using that data both for displaying and for meta data tags.
